RPF/CRM Examinations

RPF Career Promotional

RPF and CRM Examinations are generally scheduled for April and October of every year. The RPF examination is developed by the Office of Professional Forester Registration’s (OPFR) contracted Expert Examiner. The CRM examination is developed by the sponsoring professional society, the California-Pacific Section of the Society of Range Management (Cal-Pac SRM).  Both exams are administered by OPFR. 

Per Title 14, CCR, Chapter 10. Article 1. § 1640.3 “The examination shall test the applicant’s understanding of the significant concept in and working knowledge of: Forest Economics, Forest Protection, Silviculture, Forest Resources Management, Forest Resources Use, Dendrology, Forest Ecology, Forest Mensuration, Forest Policy, and Forest Administration, as these apply to the management of forest lands to produce goods and services, and in terms of the environmental effects of such activities.”

Examinations are comprehensive and challenging. They are developed to “demonstrate such degree of experience and such general knowledge of the profession of forestry as the board deems necessary for the protection of the public.” PRC § 768.

Exam study resources referenced on this page are used in the development of questions contained within the exam.  It is recommended that applicants include these study resources in their exam preparation and begin studying at least six months prior to the exam date.

Registration for the February 2, 2024 CLFA exam preparation seminar has been posted.

April 2024 Keywords are posted and that approximately 50% of the keywords are not correlated to the April 2024 exam.
